How the silver price in Dubai works

Silver trades internationally in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1 grams). Because the UAE dirham is pegged to the dollar at 3.6725, the dirham price simply follows the international price, which moves through the day.

Shops in Dubai price silver bars and coins at this spot rate plus a premium, and silver jewellery at the metal value plus a making charge, which is usually large relative to the metal because silver is cheap per gram. For jewellery, compare making charges, not just the silver rate.

925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, the standard for jewellery and cutlery. 999 (fine) silver is used for bars and coins.

Frequently asked questions

The rate at the top of this page is today's spot price of pure (999) silver in AED per gram, with per-kilo and per-ounce figures and 925 sterling silver below. It's the international silver price converted at the fixed dirham rate, updated daily.

Multiply the per-gram rate by 1,000: the table on this page shows the 1 kg price for 999 silver. A 1 kg bar from a dealer costs a little more than this spot value because of the dealer's premium.

The silver itself costs about the same as anywhere, since it follows the international price. Dubai is competitive on premiums for bars and on making charges for jewellery, and investment-grade silver (99% pure or higher) is zero-rated for VAT in the UAE.

999 silver is 99.9% pure and used for bars and coins. 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver mixed with other metals for strength, and is the standard for jewellery. Its metal value is 92.5% of the 999 price.

Silver bars and coins are sold by bullion dealers and many jewellers in the Deira Gold Souk and Gold & Diamond Park; silver jewellery is sold across the souks and malls. Ask for the price per gram and the premium or making charge separately.
